About Dr. Purcell
Dr. Purcell is a fellowship-trained
orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine and Shoulder injuries. He
has previously served as assistant team physician for the St. Louis Rams (NFL),
St. Louis Blues (NHL), and St. Louis Cardinals (MLB) professional athletic
organizations. He also served as a team physician for The University of
Colorado at Colorado Springs athletic department as well as the Shoulder
Consultant for The Colorado College.
He received his Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery Fellowship training at
Barnes Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis
(tied for #2 in a recent U.S. News & World Report ranking of medical
schools) where he also completed his residency training. He graduated from The
University of Virginia School of Medicine with distinction. He received his
B.S. in Microbiology at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa as a
Presidential Scholar where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Dr. Purcell has a special interest in advanced arthroscopic techniques, total
shoulder replacement, and cartilage restoration procedures. He has written many
articles published within peer-reviewed literature and serves as a guest
reviewer for The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
He is a native of the Nashville area and is married to his wife
Stephanie.
